Svmuu News Goldman Sachs Group CEO David Solomon stated that although the CLARITY Act is not perfect, he supports its passage, believing it will establish a clearer and fairer regulatory framework for the digital asset market, enhance market stability, and promote innovation and development.
Solomon noted that the most significant aspect of the CLARITY Act is that it “creates a level playing field, allowing the market to develop healthily.” His stance stands in stark contrast to that of some banking executives, such as Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase. The latter argue that the bill, by allowing crypto companies to offer stablecoin products that pay interest similar to bank deposits without being subject to the same regulatory requirements as banks, could undermine the competitiveness of traditional banks.
Currently, Republican senators have released a revised version of the CLARITY Act, which could be submitted to the Senate for a vote as early as next week. The bill aims to clarify the division of responsibilities between the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regarding the regulation of digital assets, and negotiations are ongoing regarding provisions related to stablecoin issuance, consumer protection, and yield-generating stablecoins.
