Merchant Ships in Strait of Hormuz Continue Using Iran's Designated Route, Avoiding US-Backed Corridor
Maritime intelligence firms report that nearly all merchant ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz are continuing to use Iran's designated route, with none taking the U.S.-backed southern corridor. Transit volumes in the strait remain low. Iran has warned it could target unauthorized vessels and has reportedly redirected ships attempting to use the southern route. Additionally, the number of tankers waiting at Iran's Kharg Island export terminal has increased.
