US Lawmakers' SpaceX Stock Purchases Spark Conflict of Interest Concerns
At least six U.S. House members or their immediate families purchased between approximately $83,000 and $245,000 in SpaceX shares within six days of the company's June 12 initial public offering (IPO). Five of these lawmakers serve on committees whose work, including defense programs, AI, telecommunications, or securities markets, directly relates to SpaceX's federal contracts and business. While the trades are legal, ethics experts and some members of Congress express concerns that these holdings could create the appearance of a conflict between lawmakers' official duties and their financial interests.
