The U.S. House Energy Committee has requested a tour of SpaceX’s AI data center in Memphis and the provision of related records
Frank Pallone, a senior Democratic member of the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce, has written to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk requesting a tour of the company’s xAI data centers and power plants in and around Memphis, Tennessee, as well as access to relevant records. Pallone stated that this move is in response to public concerns about the data center’s impact on the community—including rising electricity rates, strain on the power grid, pollution, and noise—and accused SpaceX of using “off-grid gas turbines” to power the facilities without proper permits or pollution controls, posing health risks to local communities. SpaceX has not yet responded to these allegations.
