CNBC analysis indicated that prior to Palantir's earnings report on Monday evening, its options trading activity showed strong investor expectations for a rise in its stock price, similar to the trend seen before Microsoft's previous earnings reports. According to ThinkOrSwim data, on Monday, Palantir's call options trading volume was more than double that of put options, with call options reaching 56,000 contracts and put options less than 25,000. Of the $160 million in options premiums, $120 million was related to call options. SpotGamma data showed that the most popular call option was the $130 strike price contract expiring on Friday, with traders buying 8,500 contracts for a total value of $4.4 million. Cboe LiveVol data also revealed that options pricing implied a potential stock price fluctuation of 10.5% after the earnings report, higher than the median fluctuation of 7.4% over the past year.
