Israeli prosecutors charge settler with manslaughter over killing of Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen
Israeli prosecutors have filed charges in a district court against Yinon Levi, the first Israeli to be indicted for killing a Palestinian in over seven years. Hathaleen was killed in July 2025 in the West Bank when settlers drove an excavator into the village of Umm al-Khair to clear land for a new illegal outpost, sparking clashes with residents. Videos show Levi firing into the crowd. Levi's lawyer called the charges false and said they would be contested in court. The case comes amid a surge in settler violence in the West Bank, with an average of 190 attacks per month in 2026.
