US GAO finds Elon Musk's DOGE inflated federal savings claims, falling short of $2 trillion promise and overstating $110 billion in reported cuts
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) reported that Elon Musk's DOGE initiative, which aimed to slash federal spending by $2 trillion, significantly inflated its claimed savings. The nonpartisan watchdog found issues limiting the transparency and reliability of DOGE's reported $110 billion in cuts, noting that 2,503 out of 13,476 claimed contract terminations had no action, and lease savings were overstated by nearly $60 million. The report, published Thursday, also stated that DOGE did not respond to GAO's requests for information.
