Ratings Firm Egan-Jones Accused of Inflating Grades for $40 Billion of Insurer Debt
Egan-Jones, which privately graded approximately $40 billion of debt investments on U.S. insurers' books, has been accused by former employees of pressuring staff to inflate ratings to gain business. The firm's ratings have been banned by a key regulator in Bermuda and are the focus of a lawsuit. Egan-Jones states it stands by the integrity and rigor of its ratings.
