Tesla CEO Elon Musk argues that artificial intelligence's power demand exceeds the capacity of the U.S. power grid. He points to New York and Texas slowing the construction of AI data centers due to high electrical demand. Texas Governor Greg Abbott noted that new connection requests, largely from AI data centers, were more than five times the state's peak demand. Musk himself built a natural gas-fueled power plant in Mississippi to power his Colossus I and II data centers, suggesting power is increasingly a limiting factor for AI.
