Lebanon detains former al-Assad-era Syrian general Adel Issa, weighing extradition to Syria
Judicial and security sources confirmed that Major-General Adel Issa, who served under former President Bashar al-Assad, was taken into custody in Beirut on Friday. Officials are considering sending him back to Syria to face accusations related to his military service. This would mark the first such transfer since al-Assad's government collapsed in December 2024, prompting many former officials to flee to Lebanon. Lebanese authorities are awaiting formal charges from Damascus before deciding on the extradition.
