UN Warns Gaza Faces Another Famine as 67% of Population Suffers Food Insecurity
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned last week that Gaza is facing a severe food emergency that could escalate into another famine. OCHA head Justin Brady stated that 67% of Gaza's population is suffering from food insecurity, with over 200,000 people (around 10% of the population) living in conditions that typically precede a formal famine declaration. Many children are still struggling with the lingering effects of the 2025 famine, which occurred between August and December, and families continue to face soaring food prices, often relying on single, nutritionally inadequate meals from community kitchens.
