Analysis indicates that recent financial reports from SK Hynix and Samsung show their memory chip (DRAM and NAND) pricing increases were lower than analysts' expectations, which could put pressure on Micron Technology's future performance. SK Hynix's DRAM pricing rose approximately 30% quarter-over-quarter, lower than Goldman Sachs analysts' expectation of 39%; Samsung's DRAM pricing increased over 40%, also failing to meet Morningstar analysts' expectation of 48%.

Analysts believe that the lower-than-expected pricing may indicate a slowdown in artificial intelligence (AI) demand growth, and SK Hynix reported lower-than-expected HBM4 chip shipments. Furthermore, long-term agreements signed between chip manufacturers and customers lock in prices for several years, which, while providing stability, could also result in peak pricing being lower than previously anticipated. Goldman Sachs analysts have already lowered their forecast for SK Hynix's DRAM price increase this quarter to 19%.
