Nikkei Asia reported that Hong Kong is actively attracting global academics as Western countries intensify scrutiny of China. British physicist and Nobel laureate Andre Geim moved from the University of Manchester to the University of Hong Kong earlier this year. Hong Kong's approval volume for academic visas for foreign and mainland Chinese scholars has recovered to pre-pandemic levels, doubling since 2020.
