Chinese new energy vehicle manufacturer Li Auto announced that it will gradually switch the batteries for more of its models from CATL to products developed in-house. These products have already been applied to the Li L8, L6, and i8, and will subsequently cover all models. Specifically, new generation MEGA vehicles with orders locked from September 7 at 3 PM will switch to Li Auto's self-developed 5C ternary lithium batteries, with deliveries expected to begin in November. To support this strategy, Li Auto plans to invest an additional RMB 2.65 billion in its manufacturing partner, Sunwoda Electric Vehicle Battery Co., Ltd. (Sunwoda EVB). Upon completion of the transaction, relevant Li Auto entities will indirectly hold a total of 11.17% of Sunwoda EVB's shares. The two parties had previously established a joint venture to undertake the production and manufacturing of Li Auto's self-developed batteries.
