Google Chrome has officially moved from a four-week to a two-week release schedule, starting with Tuesday’s launch of Chrome 153. Google stated this change is driven by AI's evolving role in the security landscape, as automated AI tools and community bug reports have increased the volume of necessary patches and updates. The faster cycle aims to reduce the “N-day” patch gap and accelerate the delivery of new features, helping Chrome compete with new AI-assisted browser alternatives and rapidly iterate on its own AI integrations. This move also sets a new industry standard, with Mozilla, Microsoft, and Brave already adopting similar two-week schedules.
