Oil prices rose and stock markets fell after the US and Iran attacked each other's ships and oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed to have attacked two US ships and eight oil tankers, after the US Central Command stated it had destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers on Tuesday. Affected by this, in early trading on Wednesday, the price of US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) October futures remained around $94 per barrel, and the price of international benchmark Brent crude oil futures approached $100 per barrel. Daan Struyven, co-head of global commodities research at Goldman Sachs, said that oil prices breaking above $120 is "absolutely possible."
