Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN) has announced its production plans and financial outlook for the R2 model. The company expects to deliver between 42,400 and 47,400 EVs in the second half of 2026, an 88% to 110% increase from the 22,559 units delivered in the first half, with the majority of deliveries concentrated in the fourth quarter. Although R2 deliveries began on June 9, the second quarter incurred approximately $100 million in additional costs due to its launch, resulting in a gross loss of $36 million for the automotive segment. Rivian anticipates that its automotive business will achieve positive gross profit by the end of 2026 as R2 production scales up and deliveries increase. The company also expects that by the end of 2027, the material and component costs for the R2 will be reduced to half that of the R1, and other production costs will also decrease by over 50%.
