Adult film producer Strike 3 Holdings is seeking to consolidate its existing copyright lawsuit against Meta with another "John Doe" lawsuit. Strike 3 alleges that a residential internet connection belonging to a Meta Reality Labs executive was linked to nearly 20,000 files downloaded via BitTorrent, and argues that these activities were related to their work rather than personal use. Meta disputes this conclusion, denying that the downloads are related to the company and denying that the alleged torrenting was for AI training. The lawsuit involves 2,973 films, with potential statutory damages of approximately $446 million if willful infringement can be proven. Previously, a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California denied Meta's request to dismiss the copyright infringement lawsuit, calling its explanation for the downloaded files "implausible."
