Amazon raised £4.25 billion ($5.76 billion) on Wednesday through its first sterling bond offering, exceeding early targets. The funds are earmarked for artificial intelligence infrastructure, as hyperscalers increasingly turn to bond markets beyond the U.S. to finance AI development. Total orders reached £10.65 billion, with yields ranging from approximately 5.2% on the three-year tranche to 6.7% on the 19-year issue. JPMorgan Chase, Barclays, HSBC, and NatWest managed the sale. This move extends Amazon's currency footprint beyond the dollar, having previously accessed euro, Swiss franc, and Canadian dollar markets in 2026. Amazon's capital expenditure budget for 2026 is set at $200 billion, with data centers, chips, and supporting hardware accounting for the majority of these outlays.
