OpenAI has selected Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) as its partner for its first custom AI inference chip, Jalapeno. Broadcom is currently designing OpenAI's third-generation XPU. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan anticipates the company's AI semiconductor revenue to reach $115 billion in fiscal year 2027 and $230 billion in fiscal year 2028.
OpenAI also disclosed that it is collaborating with Samsung on next-generation chips, though Samsung's specific role was not clarified. Broadcom stated that its design partnership with OpenAI extends beyond Jalapeno, and expects OpenAI to become its second-largest XPU customer.
