Bloomberg reports that Microsoft plans to more than triple its global data center capacity to over 38 gigawatts (GW) by 2032, up from approximately 12 GW currently. Sources familiar with the matter stated that this plan encompasses Microsoft's owned and leased data centers, excluding hashrate rented from "new cloud" service providers. This expansion aims to address the escalating shortage of AI and cloud computing hashrate, which has already forced Microsoft to restrict new cloud service subscriptions in some key regions and hampered its business. By 2032, AI-specific hashrate is expected to account for approximately one-third of the total 38 GW capacity.
