In a new report, Anthropic alleges it intervened in northern Yemen to block the use of Claude for missile guidance software, including for a guided rocket and a long-range ballistic missile. The company stated that operators used Claude "in place of human software engineers" to write missile-guidance and flight-control software, and while internal safeguards blocked many requests, some slipped through. Anthropic has no evidence a working weapon was fielded, but operators appeared to conduct an unsuccessful test-fire.

The report also claims a Russian-linked espionage operation (bearing hallmarks of Midnight Blizzard/APT29) relied on automated AI workflows using Claude for phishing, setup, and data theft against Ukrainian, European, and diplomatic targets.
