Zalmay Khalilzad, former U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, Iraq, and the United Nations, stated in an interview with Al Jazeera that the United States made a series of spiraling decisions driven by fear and anger after 9/11. He pointed out that mistakes in Afghanistan policy included not negotiating with the Taliban, and that the Iraq War was based on faulty intelligence. He added that without 9/11, the U.S. might not have invaded Iraq.
