Yahoo Finance Analysis: Buffett continues to recommend low-cost S&P 500 index funds, while Berkshire Hathaway, under Abel's leadership, increases its stake in Alphabet and has net sold approximately $175 billion in stocks since October 2022.
Yahoo Finance analysis points out that Warren Buffett has for years advised ordinary investors to choose low-cost S&P 500 index funds, such as the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF, which has an expense ratio of only 0.03%. Meanwhile, after Buffett stepped down as CEO at the end of 2025, Greg Abel took over Berkshire Hathaway's stock portfolio, significantly increasing its holdings in Alphabet in Q1 2026, and adding another $10 billion in private investment in June. Furthermore, Berkshire has been a net seller of stocks in 14 out of the past 15 quarters since October 2022, with cumulative net sales of approximately $175 billion, even as the Buffett Indicator (total market capitalization to GDP ratio) reached a new historical high of 240% in August.
