Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has requested Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to prepay five years of electricity bills to raise 25 trillion Korean won for grid expansion.
Korea Electric Power Corp. (Kepco) currently has over 200 trillion won (approximately $148 billion) in debt and plans to raise about 100 trillion won to expand its power grid to support the country's semiconductor industry clusters, which have enormous electricity demands. To this end, the state-owned utility has asked Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to prepay a total of 25 trillion won (approximately $18.5 billion) in electricity bills for five years.
