The talks are part of a meeting of the Joint Security Coordination Mechanism (JSCM) between the two countries, aimed at assessing the implementation progress of key security commitments. This follows ongoing conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and disputes over commitments in the agreement regarding the disarmament of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) in the DRC and the withdrawal of Rwandan troops. The United States, Qatar, Togo, and the African Union Commission will participate in the meeting as mediators.
