Experts at Fashion Tech Show suggest AI and automation are key to overcoming onshoring challenges
At the Fashion Tech Show in Los Angeles on Tuesday, experts highlighted that AI and automation technologies could mitigate issues like high labor costs and disjointed supply chains, which currently hinder the return of manufacturing to the U.S. CreateMe Technologies, an AI robotics company, is already automating apparel manufacturing to enable faster, localized, on-demand production. Black Swan Textiles' Keith Hoover noted AI's potential in product creation and inventory planning to reduce overproduction, while Lalaland Production and Design's Alexander Zar emphasized the need for automated processes like 3D knitting and printing for mass-market onshoring, especially given the limited domestic raw material supply.
