The Philippine Coast Guard on Friday accused a China Coast Guard vessel of carrying out dangerous military manoeuvres before hitting the BRP Datu Magat Salamat off the coast of Palawan province. The Philippine vessel, belonging to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), was on a mission to supply fuel to Philippine fishermen. The collision caused severe damage to one side of the Philippine ship, though no injuries were reported. China rejected the account, stating the Philippine vessel ignored warnings and intentionally altered its course.
