Iran pushes for mass civilian mobilization, IRGC says over 600,000 registered this week
Iranian authorities are promoting a large-scale mobilization campaign called "Janfada" (meaning "devotee"), aimed at training and arming civilian volunteers as part of the Basij militia under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The campaign held its first public "military exercise" in Tehran on Friday, with IRGC officials claiming that over 600,000 people have registered via the website this week, and the total registration is expected to exceed one million. A UN investigative mission on Friday accused Iran of committing crimes against humanity in its crackdown on protests.
