China's Communist Party has expelled Zhang Youxia, former second vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, and Liu Zhenli, a member of the Central Military Commission and chief of the Joint Staff Department, from the party due to alleged corruption and other serious misconduct, including "seriously violating political discipline and rules, forming factions and cliques, and being disloyal and dishonest to the party," Xinhua reported on Monday. The move is part of President Xi Jinping's ongoing anti-corruption campaign. Both individuals were announced to be under investigation in January and were removed from their military posts in late August. Zhang Youxia was once considered Xi Jinping's closest military ally.
