Nasdaq closes at record high, S&P 500 near record, while oil dips near $100 after Trump's Middle East threat
The Nasdaq notched a record high close on Tuesday, gaining 0.5% to 27,244 points, lifted by Micron Technology and other AI-related stocks. The S&P 500 hovered just below a record high, ending essentially flat at 7,764 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.4% to 51,863 points. Oil prices were choppy near US$100 a barrel, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury note yield hovered around 4.94%, after US President Donald Trump warned in a UN General Assembly speech that he could "annihilate the Islamic Republic" if no deal is reached to end the Middle East conflict. Investors also awaited a US-China summit on Thursday, with traders speculating on a potential extension of the trade truce and discussions on AI regulation.
