QatarEnergy has signed an agreement with Cheniere Energy Inc. to purchase 4 million tons per annum (MTPA) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States until 2054. This marks Qatar's first such offtake agreement with the U.S., following disruptions to Qatar's own natural gas production due to the Iran War. The agreement comes as Qatar, previously one of the largest LNG exporters before the conflict, seeks to supply customers whose deliveries were interrupted after its Ras Laffan facilities in the Gulf region were damaged in the war. QatarEnergy has also been forced to significantly cut volumes due to ongoing shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
