Canadian Prime Minister Carney and Turkish President Erdoğan announced on Thursday the launch of the Canada-Turkey Strategic Partnership and signed a three-year action plan. The two leaders stated that they would deepen cooperation in four key pillars: trade and investment, defense and security, energy, and people-to-people exchanges. Erdoğan said that the two countries aim to increase their current trade volume of approximately $3 billion, first to $5 billion, and then to $10 billion. Both sides have agreed to initiate free trade agreement negotiations by the end of this year to promote trade and investment. This cooperation comes as Canada seeks to diversify its partnerships to reduce its reliance on the United States.
