Norwegians fall victim to new gold scam, suffer heavy losses after being tricked into leaving gold in public places
Norwegians are falling victim to a new type of gold scam. According to Finans Norge and ABC Nyheter, scammers trick victims into buying gold, promising to store it for them. They then instruct victims to leave the gold in public places such as forests or public parks, ultimately absconding with it. The FBI's 2025 Internet Crime Report indicates that similar "gold courier scams" have led to approximately 725 complaints and $311.8 million in losses.
