Iran announced that seven oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz were hit and damaged since the US and Israel launched hostilities against Iran on February 28, marking the largest single-day loss in the waterway. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated on Thursday that four of these vessels were attacked and caught fire while transporting oil overnight, while the other three were disabled by mines. The IRGC warned that if the US military intervenes in oil tanker traffic in other areas of the Strait, the conflict will spread to US military bases in the Middle East. US President Donald Trump, however, accused Iran of fabricating attacks and mining incidents to drive up oil prices and influence the US midterm elections. A spokesperson for the US Central Command denied Iran's claims of mining, stating that the US military has cleared international shipping lanes and noted that Iran is using missiles and drones for attacks, but the Strait remains open, with 95% of vessels able to pass through.
