OpenAI launches Decisions API to compete with TypeSafe's Jev model.
OpenAI has broadly released its Decisions API model to all users, officially entering the fast, low-cost decision intelligence market. The model aims to compete with TypeSafe's Jev model, which has helped TypeSafe become a startup valued at $7.6 billion. The Decisions API reconfigures ChatGPT Luna to improve inference speed and reduce costs, cutting decision times from 1-3 seconds to 100-180 milliseconds. The product was announced at the company's developer conference on September 29 and opened to all customers on Thursday, with added voice and visual modalities and global low latency ensured through geolocation inference resources. Initial trials show the API can replace LLMs for higher throughput; for example, AI language tutoring company Speak reduced action interval times from 1.4 seconds to 0.13 seconds. Currently, OpenAI's decision model ranks eighth on the AIM System One Index and fourteenth on the Artificial Analysis Decision Index, while TypeSafe's Jev model remains competitive.
