Coinbase to disable GYEN stablecoin transfers on Oct. 26 and convert remaining holdings to USDC by Oct. 30
Coinbase will automatically convert customers' remaining GYEN holdings into USDC at prevailing market rates between Oct. 26 and Oct. 30, ahead of the stablecoin issuer GMO Trust's final direct-redemption deadline on Nov. 11. Customers wishing to avoid Coinbase's conversion must withdraw their tokens before Oct. 26. The Japanese yen-backed stablecoin, with a market capitalization of approximately $13 million, is being wound down by GMO-Z.com Trust Company following investor lawsuits and a $6.75 million settlement earlier this year due to its price crash in 2021.
