Vessel attacks in the Strait of Hormuz reached at least 28 in October, marking a new monthly high since the current conflict began.
According to data compiled by the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, cited by Reuters, commercial shipping attacks in the Strait of Hormuz in October were the most severe since the current conflict began, with at least 28 confirmed vessel attacks. Since the outbreak of the US-Israel war against Iran in February, the institute has recorded a cumulative 113 attacks. Data from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) roughly aligns, recording 120 incidents since the start of the war. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) stated that as of October 16, it had counted 135 reported incidents, noting that not all attacks are included in reports. Reuters, based on IMO data, calculated that approximately 3.5% of the world's more than 900 supertankers have been attacked during the conflict.
