Bitcoin treasuries Strategy and Strive face the challenge of balancing Bitcoin purchases with preferred stock dividends.
According to CoinDesk, Bitcoin treasury companies Strategy (MSTR) and Strive (ASST) are striving to balance Bitcoin purchases with preferred stock dividends. Since their launch in February 2025, these preferred stocks have funded the purchase of approximately 136,000 Bitcoins, with a total market size of about $12 billion. Strategy recently repurchased $193 million in preferred stock while only acquiring 267 Bitcoins, and increased its preferred stock repurchase authorization to $3 billion. The company has also previously sold some Bitcoin to pay preferred stock dividends. Analysts believe this financing model attracts yield-seeking investors, complementing the ETF market, but the continuous issuance of preferred stock and dividend payments put pressure on the companies' capital allocation.
