Brazilian Finance Minister Fernando Haddad stated that the National Treasury intervened in the government bond market on Monday, canceling a scheduled bond auction and conducting special reverse repurchase operations to "ensure rationality in trading" after President Lula's re-election sparked fiscal concerns and caused long-term interest rate futures to surge. Haddad also said that the government will pursue a higher real primary fiscal surplus next year and plans to submit a bill to Congress this year to explicitly target the "midpoint" of the primary fiscal balance goal.
