Romanian authorities stated they have uncovered a sabotage network coordinated by Russia, which allegedly caused the fire near a state-owned arms factory in Brasov on September 14. Romania's intelligence service announced on Monday that the fire was part of a "broader sabotage operation" by Russia targeting arms manufacturers and other military and industrial objectives during its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) stated that three individuals residing in EU countries (two Belarusians, one Ukrainian) are involved, with two already arrested in Germany and one still at large in Poland. Romanian Foreign Minister Dan Neculaescu said the fire was part of "Russia's broader sabotage operations against military production across Europe." This follows a series of incidents at defense facilities across Europe, including explosions and fires at an ammunition depot in Bulgaria in September, an incendiary attack near a defense company in Munich, and an explosion at an ammunition factory near Rome, Italy, in August.
