Chinese AI start-up Moonshot AI apologized on Monday for limiting customers’ use of its latest Kimi K3.1 Pro model, in a botched roll-out that has also invited scrutiny over its promotional practices and cybersecurity measures. The company stated on its X account, "We’re sorry for the rate limits and unnecessary quota consumption on the K3.1 Pro subscription plan," and in a separate Chinese notice, it took responsibility for the issues. Moonshot AI will provide a one-time usage reset, restoring 25% of the monthly quota for all active subscribers. The apology follows three days of user complaints about rate limits after the K3.1 Pro launch. Additionally, Moonshot AI faced allegations over the weekend from global software developers for allegedly offering to pay online influencers to promote its model without disclosing the sponsorship, which would violate social media platform policies and US FTC requirements. Moonshot AI did not address these allegations in its apology.
