Matthew Driver, Executive Vice President at Mastercard, stated that while stablecoins offer faster and more efficient payments, the slow transition of supporting infrastructure—what he termed the "stablecoin sandwich" effect—limits their benefits and prevents them from fully realizing their potential. He noted that connecting real-time payment systems to stablecoin exchanges could accelerate payments, but infrastructure development is still needed. Mastercard is expanding its involvement in the digital assets sector, including the acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure provider BVNK in August and the joint launch of the Global Money Platform with BVNK this month.
