Al Jazeera, citing the Jerusalem Governorate, reported that dozens of Israeli settlers, under the protection of the Israeli army, stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem on Tuesday. The Palestinian news agency WAFA stated that the settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque courtyard through the Mughrabi Gate and performed Jewish rituals and "epic prostrations" in the eastern area of the compound. Last month, hundreds of Israelis also entered the compound on the fifth day of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. According to the historical status quo, the Islamic Waqf Department in Jerusalem has exclusive responsibility for managing the compound as a place of worship solely for Muslims.
