Canada and the United Arab Emirates signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on Tuesday, aiming to cut tariffs, reduce red tape, and improve market access for businesses in both countries. This move is part of Canadian Prime Minister Carney's efforts to expand trade and investment in non-U.S. markets, in response to tensions with the United States and Donald Trump's tariff policies. The agreement, expected to take effect in 2027, will reduce or eliminate tariffs on over 99% of Canadian exports to the UAE. Last year, the UAE also pledged to invest up to $50 billion in Canada.
