CZ retweeted MetaFinancialAI's address poisoning investigation. This scam sends users fake zero-value USDT transfers, causing a fraudulent address with similar leading and trailing characters to commonly used addresses to appear in transaction records, inducing users to copy and mistakenly transfer funds. The investigation sampled the proportion of zero-value USDT and USDC transfers within 24 hours across four chains: Ethereum 13.5% (approximately 177,000 daily transactions), Base 2.7%, BNB Chain 1.1%, and Arbitrum 0.4%. The investigators stated that all 40 zero-value transfers they reviewed on BNB Chain were sent from unfamiliar addresses, not the account owner, consistent with the typical poisoning pattern. The report also cited a USENIX Security 2025 study, stating that from 2022 to 2024, a total of 270 million attempts and 17 million victims were recorded on Ethereum and BNB Chain, with at least $83.8 million stolen. The report recommends not copying addresses from transaction history, but instead using an address book or whitelist and thoroughly verifying the entire address; Binance's security team, HashDit, and Trust Wallet are also providing relevant detection or interception.
