South Korea's National Security Advisor, Wi Sung-lac, stated that Seoul is still considering various options for deployment to the Strait of Hormuz, including sending maritime patrol aircraft. He revealed to a parliamentary committee that South Korea continues to discuss possible actions with the United States, but President Lee Jae-myung has ruled out combat deployment. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical transit point for global oil and gas supplies, and the South Korean economy heavily relies on energy supplies passing through it. Since the outbreak of the US-Israel war in February, Iran has been attempting to control the waterway and has attacked vessels it accuses of "unauthorized" passage through the strait.
