Binance co-CEO Richard Teng provided an update on the investigation into the October 30 hack of approximately $6.3 billion, stating that multiple individuals were involved. Investigators initially suspected a laptop compromise but subsequently discovered other entry points. The attackers used a self-destruct mechanism to erase tools and traces, complicating the investigation. Teng stated that they exploited an EIP-7702 vulnerability to gain on-chain execution permissions for the hot wallet, thereby bypassing Binance's normal approval controls. Binance has suspended withdrawals to rebuild and test its systems, aiming to restore them within 40 hours. The company is collaborating with law enforcement to track and recover the stolen funds.
