Nvidia, Microsoft, JPMorgan Among 50 Firms Blocking OKX-ICE Stock Tokenization
Fifty public companies, including Nvidia, Microsoft, and JPMorgan, have objected to OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) tokenizing their shares. This comes as the 30-day notice window for OKXICE, a joint venture between crypto exchange OKX and NYSE parent ICE, closed on Tuesday. The objections stem from the SEC’s five-year “Innovation Exemption,” which allows tokenized securities venues to trade blockchain versions of U.S. stocks without registering as exchanges, provided the issuer does not object within 30 days. OKXICE plans 24/7 trading of these tokens, backed one-for-one by real shares and paired against stablecoins like USDC on OKX’s X Layer blockchain. Nasdaq has also actively opposed this model, citing concerns about market fragmentation, and is developing its own issuer-centric Nasdaq Equity Token with Kraken.
