According to Wu Blockchain, Binance has released an initial report on the October 29 hack, disclosing that the attackers compromised an engineer's device in September through a fake job interview and malware. They subsequently used an internal AI tool to gain access to a wallet engineer's permissions and abused the Ethereum EIP-7702 authorization mechanism. Binance stated that merely pausing withdrawals would not prevent malicious on-chain authorizations. Of the $6.34 billion in affected assets, approximately $2.85 billion has been frozen or intercepted. As of October 31, 98% of the affected token assets have been replenished, and sufficient funds have been reserved to cover all losses. The investigation is ongoing.
